Craftsmen Who Build Better

I recently met some like minded home builders at a gathering of the Colorado Green Building Guild, a trade group. The folks at Bauen Build (Bauen is German for ‘build’) don’t just build houses to minimum standards. They care deeply about what goes into a house and how it’s constructed. “There is a better way to build homes where every design decision and material choice are precisely considered.” How does that resonate? It certainly grabbed me.

Most importantly they have a strong sense of why they’re building houses to the highest performance standards. And they seek clients looking for the same. Better ingredients. Better health. Better impact.

Does your builder have a strong sense of why they build? Do they try to understand your why?

A definition of culture is what you do when nobody is looking. So much of what goes into a high performance house isn’t seen. It’s what’s behind the drywall. Or under the siding. Or tucked away in a utility room or attic space. It’s too easy to skimp on these areas in the name of ease or profit. But if the builder and client are on the same page then you get the beauty and function that Bauen Build exemplifies.

Take the time and energy to connect with your craftsman, regardless of the project. Create the right culture. Details matter.
