Curves for Custom Fine Furniture | Life is rarely a straight line
Design is often influenced by experiences, observations and feelings. For custom furniture, the humble curve can touch the heart in unique ways.
While a straight line is the quickest way to connect two points, a curve takes more time and can add curious twists to the journey. Sometimes there are several curves in one, making the path even more winding and exciting.
Switching from a career as a General Surgeon to crafting fine furniture is definitely not a straightforward journey. Even becoming a surgeon was a lively adventure, full of twists and turns, taking us on a few cross-country trips in the process.
Do It Right | the curve can represent the journey that we take to get to our destination. It can be gradual. Or sharp. Or both. The journey is rarely direct.
Crafting with curves is more challenging than working with straight, square shapes. The joints don’t always line up at nice right angles. Figuring out the math can be a fun puzzle to solve. Getting the curve to look just right is an even more exciting challenge.
There is something really soothing about a curve. It’s more gentle. Even natural. Imagine your hands and fingers at rest - they’re not stretched out straight, but comfortably curved, as if ready to hold or be held.
Incorporating a curve, or multiple curves, into the design of a custom furniture piece is an excellent method to distinguish it from the ordinary.
