Why We Build

Building fine furniture is fun, full of technical and other challenges. What makes it truly special is the genuine satisfaction that clients show when a piece is completed.

This is what custom furniture can mean to the artisan

When I turned to building furniture after a career as a General Surgeon a big reason was to combine the joys of building with the opportunity to do it for others. To be able to take a hope or idea or aspiration, work through the details of design and build, and add something that enhances someone’s life is an honor.

What brings specialness to a build is working with a client to understand their wants and needs and emotions and then incorporating those things into what we design and create. It’s more involved than a mere purchase and it’s much more satisfying.

When custom furniture is placed in its home we can stand back and take pride in what we’ve accomplished. It’s different than the expectations of health care. There’s a certain joy in the collaboration and creation of something that can improve daily life. Not in the physical well being, but in functionality, comfort and emotion. The stakes are different but in many ways just as important.

Making a custom furniture piece is something we do together. As a team. There is excitement and joy and anticipation. Whether big or small, major or minor, the improvement in lifestyle is what is gratifying. A journey has ended, yet it‘s just starting as well.

That gratification is why we build for others

The decision to invest in a piece of fine custom furniture is not to be taken lightly. The investment takes a lot of resources - time, energy and money. There’s a reason you choose to spend your valuable resources. And there’s a reason that we as artisans join the journey. To contribute in a way we value and to know that we can help make a difference in our own way.
